EnergyVille Energy Encounters - Heat - 22/06/2021
In February and March 2021, EnergyVille organised a series of expert debates, the Energy Encounters, on various energy topics. During these debates, experts who play a key role in realising this turnaround came together to discuss key issues. We brought different stakeholders together, who will put all their challenges in the energy transition on the table. That way, we can explore constructive solutions together.
On 22 June 2021 the last session, discussing the topic Heat, is planned, with speakers from ODE, Fluvius, Hysopt, Van Marcke, Johnson & Johnson, Veolia, and Daikin.
You are more than welcome to join this debate via live stream. A live Q&A will also allow you to take part in the conversation from afar.

Johan Torfs - Mircrosoft - Talk at ODE webinar on 25/05/2021
25/05/2021
Johan Torfs, responsible for critical infrastructures in Western Europe for Microsoft, talked on a webinar of ODE on May 25th about the potential of digitalisation in the energy sector. FLEXharvester, including STORM energy controller, was used as an example how Microsoft Azure can help saving energy cost in a heat network by using the thermal mass of buildings.
The Microsoft and VITO/EnergyVille partnership will enable more and more Microsoft Solution partners to enter into the world of Energy Flexibility.

HeatriCity at AI4Cities
05/05/2021
VITO/Energyville was chosen as a supplier of its smart control technology for district heating networks, for the AI4Cities project (https://ai4cities.eu/). The project has a total funding of 4.6 million euros split into three phases to develop and implement Artificial Intelligence based innovations for 6 participating cities, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Paris, Stavanger, and Tallinn. Thanks to Microsoft’s unconditional support and network in the smart cities domain, VITO/EnergyVille was able to benefit from this opportunity.
In phase 1, VITO/EnergyVille will design the first of its kind solution HeatriCity, an intelligent control solution, which maximizes local renewable electricity integration through building heat demand management, at radically low investment costs. HeatriCity builds upon and extends STORM District Energy Controller, a proven demand side management solution for peak shaving in thermal networks. It is a unique solution that enables coupling the heat and the power sectors by bringing together technologies such as AI, advanced optimization algorithms, internet of things (IoT), and cloud computing in a single system. HeatriCity will be hosted as an application on the FLEXharvester cloud platform, taking advantage of its large number of functionalities.
After the first phase dedicated to solution design, a second phase for prototyping will follow. Thereafter, phase 3 for piloting the solution in two selected cities will begin. The project will be carried out between May 2021 and July 2022, with a total duration of 13 months. Out of the twenty one suppliers in phase 2, ten and three suppliers will qualify for phase 2 and 3 respectively.
